On the nexus 6p no ois? I got my nexus 5x with it by adding a single line to the build prop. It's easy.
What I did with my wife's transition was to use nova and get the paid version and use swipe up on the home screen to go to the apps. It is easy and keeps the home screen clean. Now my wife is super pro android. She always hates using an iPhone now.
Yeah brightness isn't the greatest on my nexus. I missed my note 4 for Couple of things and the screen was one of them. Just the damned thing had a locked bootloader.
You could wait for the modular phone to come out.

No, that's digital image stabilization and not nearly as good. Probably not a deal-breaker for most people, probably not even for her since her phone doesn't have it either. But I would like for her first Android phone to really feel like an upgrade as much as possible, beyond just the general experience of customization.
