I really believe Michigan never had a chance at getting Les Miles. The only reason Les Miles agent tried to contact Michigan was to get leverage to get more money from LSU. I think Bill Martin knew this and thats why he didn't return call. When Les and his agent realized
Michigan wouldn't play that game they quickly jumped on LSU offer before LSU realized Mich wasn't that interested. If Les had honestly been considering Michigan he would have waited to talk to them after the game. Les also knew if he lost to tennesse the offer would be substantially less from LSU. I know he is a good coach but I am glad we didn't hire him. Sean Payton would be great, but find that very difficult to believe

He used Michigan to get leverage for more money? Didn't work, since he didn't have a dime added in his contract.

Wrong. The money added to his salary was the already agreed upon raises in connection with winning the SECCG and a National Championship.
So, it wasn't for money.
As for Miles really wanting the Michigan job, there is not a single Tiger fan who really follows the program that would deny that fact. Its certainly is understandable, considering the circumstances.
As for Payton, he and his agent came out today and denied any discussion, whatsoever, with Martin, or anyone else at UM.
Seems Martin has a credibility problem.
