What about monitor wise? Just phone, tablet, or dedicated monitor?
I have a Foscam in my daughter's room. I mostly use my laptop, and my wife mostly uses an old nook color. The camera has a web server so that you can use most browsers to view it, and there are plenty of IP cam viewer apps that you can install on a phone or tablet.
I strongly recommend a camera that has pan/tilt functionality. We have the camera in the corner at the foot of the bed. I often pan the camera to other parts of the room when she's awake.

my wife and her sister were hanging out in the room right after i set it up and i was at work. so i put on 'somebody's watching me' on youtube and turned on the remote speaker.

This is what I was hoping to hear. So I can pretty much use anything to view. Does the pan and tilt carry over to the devices?
