I can tell you this... we lost the best hitter in the state to the gumps... the catcher from STM in Laffy because Dobson said she couldn't hit. She is a beast and would have been a great addition. I know we have a great catcher coming in, but I hate losing in state talent, especially how good this young lady is.

1st: who is OF?

2nd: Hemphill was never going to Baton Rouge. Anyone who says different is lying. It was always Bama or ULL

Funny how that works

He was saying Nicky is going to play outfield. For some reason, he has his panties in a wad about Charlie, who is a good guy, and has done everything he can to help his daughter not just be a good softball player, but a good person as well.

The second part is nothing but troof. And she is going to Bama based in part on Ed's sister's recommendation to them.

There is a difference between reinforcing them and learning them, at least IMO.

I get what you're saying now, and I tend to agree with you. However, being as LA is known for what we don't teach, you'd be surprised at how many good ball players go into high school never knowing the correct way to plant and stick a backhand or footwork around second base, just to name a couple. 18 is a bit biased because by all accounts, he was one of the good ones, of which there are some. But there are just as many bad high school coaches in my experience, so it's kind of a "experiences may vary" situation.

I know Charlie too. Doesn't say much but knows the game and how to assess talent. Has some pro baseball experience as a player, coach and scout I believe. I can see Nicky in CF running down everything.

He will be the first one to back off on Nicky's abilities and people's expectations but trust me, he knows she is a beast. I saw him around some when Hemphill and Dawson played together with the Voodoo. Ed has some issue with him (and everybody else it seems) but Charlie doesn't hit me as being someone that would take much from anyone.

I agree that Hemphill was never going to LSU. Bama was on her hard and early and Murphy locked her down a long time ago. By the way, I still think Hemp and Dawson are the two best position players in the USA this year. I've only been saying that for two and a half years!!

Allison Habetz (Bama asst.) locked her down, not Murphy.

Thanks for the kind words, but all I did was work my tail off to keep learning and pushed my kids to be better every day.

I did say that there are some bad coaches on the high school level, but there some bad ones on the travel ball level too. I used to shake my head at some of the things I've seen on both levels.

My observations tell me that our coaching needs to be improved on all levels. I was in a discussion this Spring and the consensus was that we need more qualified coaches. We also have a problem when a lot of our younger coaches aren't taking the time to improve their abilities. I run a coaches clinic in Houston each January and we get top coaches around the country to speak. We average between 400-500 each year which us great, but I send information to the LSCA (which I helped start) and I get 3-4 coaches from Louisiana each year and about 15 travel ball coaches in Texas. Yes my clinic was originally set up for HS coaches, but I have moved the HS specific stuff to the very beginning and the majority of the clinic is now set up for all coaches.

We do a great job overall in Texas in networking. I started the Texas Prep Softball website as an aid to coaches, but I've grown it to help all softball. We have over 1000 on our email lists to help find games, add records, etc. I've expressed that I'm ready to retire and almost unanimously everyone wants to pay me to keep it running instead of taking over.

So we need to fill the need of having more and qualified coaches on both levels who will take the time to improve their skills and work hard to teach the kids to improve their skills. This applies from 6U to HS to Gold ball. When this happens, the sky is the limit for our great sport!

I wanted to add that I'm enjoying reading and discussing these topics the past few days. Lots of great points from all sides in the goal of finding ways to better improve our game.

100% good luck to a fine player. I hate it didn't work out for her. I thought she might end up at SELU. NSU got a good pick up.

Certainly didn't see that one coming. I wish her all the best. But she is Tiger Bait, now!

Lol... thought she was headed to Nicholls too. My sources say that Nicholls thought she was coming there too and they aren't too happy about it. They have a good coaching staff.

Offer must have been very good to jump to Los Angeles. Good for her. She deserves it
