Denver Front Range - One Night Hike/Camp

I posted this on the travel board but figured I would get some good advice here as well.
I will be in Denver end of June for a work trip and wanted to take advantage and use a day and a half to head into the front range area for an over night camping trip.
I'm an experienced in hiker / backcountry camper but do not know the area. A buddy and I are looking for a scenic hike with an off the beaten path camping site (just one night, going on a Thursday to hopefully miss crowds) with a places along the way to get a few lines wet with the fly rod. Ideally our hike would end us up at a campsite with a pretty high elevation / view. Max drive distance from Denver maybe 2.5 hours...
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
TIA

Absolutely gorgeous - Mueller State Park at 9,000+ ft. in the mountains. Plenty of trails to hike.

my recommendation would be to head up to either steamboat springs or to rocky mountain national park...
