If you're bringing a lady and want to drop a bit of cash you need to take her to Highlands or Bottega. Highlands has been nominated as the best restaurant in America for something like 7 straight years. Bottega is another of Frank Stitts restaurants.
As others have said don't go to "Uptown".
Northside downtown (CBD) has some decent bars/restaurants as some others have mentioned: Collins, Paramount, El Barrio, etc.
My personal favorite restaurant in Birmingham is Wasabi Juans. It is a sushi burrito restaurant in Avondale.
They also just opened a Hattie B's Chicken in Lakeview which people seem to be excited about.
