How did you do it? I have a RES that has is laying some eggs right now in my garden and I want to retrieve and hatch them. I did it with a speckled King snake I had as a kid with just some much in a fishtank outside that I misted to keep them plump. I'd like to hear what y'all did if you have before. Thanks!

5 gallon bucket half full of vermiculite...keep it out of the sun, but in a warm place.

When we were kids, my dad would dig a hole in the ground and line it with bricks, keeping an open space about 6 inches square or so in the middle. He would then put a piece of plexiglass on the top and then we would put a cinder block or other heavy item on top to keep anything from getting to the eggs. Everyday we could go lift up the block and look through the plexiglass to check the progress of the eggs. Was neat getting to watch them hatch.

Before you move the eggs, take a sharpie and put a dot in the top of each egg. When moving, keep the dot upright and when placing back down, do the same. If you flip the egg, the embryo can become detached.

Yea my plan was to dot them and in some sort of vermiculite setup...but false alarm. She has been wondering and diging for a month or two now...I hope she's not having issues. I think what I saw was rocks in the bottom of the hole. I have a row of rocks between the back fence and garden and that's where she was. I thought for sure I saw eggs in the bottom but I guess rocks because I can't find anything but in the area. In the past she has just laid them in the pond but this year she has been getting out and digging. Hope she's not egg bound.

Usually you won't have to dot them as they stick together in a giant clump more often than not. As posted earlier, 5 gallon bucket full of vermiculite in the garage out of direct sunlight will be fine.

Moisten the soil about every other week. The egg shells will start to shrivel up if they don't have sufficient moisture and will swell excessively if they have too much moisture. I've done this dozens of times, its literally almost idiot proof

Yea exactly how I did with some king snake eggs. How often will they breed kept outside? She has either been trying to lay for a while now or they keep doing the do. I have one male with her.
