Public drainage servitude

20 foot public drainage servitude at the rear of a piece of property. Can a fence go all the way to property line or must it stop short, taking into account the public drainage servitude?

be on the safe side and call your local zoning/planning office.

My back yard has a 12'x75' that is a drainage servitude but it is in my property. I was clearly explained that I could build a fence on it but if they need to access it for whatever reason, I'd have to take the fence down or they would. Been 2 years and no problems yet. Was worth it to me. Good luck.

Thanks. This is in Ascension and is on land I'm considering at the moment.

You can build on it but if needed they can remove it

What about putting dirt fill on it?

Above answers are correct. Can put dirt on it if it is subsurface drainage. If it is a swale to drain rear yards, you can only place fill if you pipe it. Will need parish approval.

I hope you have better luck with the AP drainage dept. than I've had.
