Used to take my dogs to the Burbank retriever lake for exercise, but with the renovations they haven't been able to swim in a while.

Any ideas on other places I can get them some deep water swimming? It's the only thing that really wears them out.

They can swim at the Burbank, just use the lake near the dog park

Mississippi river. Hit L'auberge and go either right or left. When the river is low would take an access road over the levee and park next to the river proper. When river is high would park next to River Road and let them swim in the borrow pits between the trees and the levee. They will get filthy and smell like the Mississippi but they will love you for it. Snakes are no worse than at the Burbank dog park.

old thread

Grew up near the levee, been wading in borrow pits since I was 8. Only time I see snakes is when sneaking around in a pirogue to set limb-lines for catfish. Bottom line is the snakes are there but will GTFO when there's a human or dog within 100 yards.
