I know a little more than you think, shouldn't be so quick to dismiss someone on a few sentences.....
Not sure that's the case.

I understand perfectly. What I KNOW is that we have Anderson's Bird Rights. Now with that, we are the only team that can offer a extra year on any deal. So, similar to when LeBron jumped to Miami and then thereafter, did a sign a trade, New Orleans could easily have an agreement with, say Boston, with the understanding that Anderson wants to go to Boston and sign a deal that gives him that crucial 5th year, potentially, then we could swap picks and get an assest or two from Boston's current roster, in exchange for Anderson and our 2nd round pick(s) as part of a package deal.
Boston has no incentive to S&T for Anderson. If Anderson wants to go to Boston he can just sign there without them giving up assets. Under this CBA there is no contractual benefits to a S&T. The only team who can give Ryno a 5th year is us. If we S&T, he can only get a 4 year contract with 4.5% raises.
I have gone through this numerous times. There is little chance we S&T Ryno because there is no incentive for teams to S&T this summer outside of the very few teams who don't have cap space. Thus we would need to find a team with little capspace, who has assets they want to dump that we want, and Ryno wants to play for them. Alternatively we may be able to use something like a future second to buy a large TPE if the team he chooses to sign with wants to work with us.
NBA CBA FAQ - Sign and Trades
quote:
Sign-and-trade contracts must be for at least three seasons (not including any option year) and no longer than four seasons
quote:
The starting salary in a contract signed for a sign-and-trade may be any amount up to the player's maximum, however if the player meets the 5th Year 30% Max criteria he cannot receive a salary greater than 25% of the cap. Raises are limited to 4.5%.
quote:
93. Why would teams or players want to do a sign-and-trade? Teams benefit because they can get something in return for players they would otherwise lose to free agency. For players the benefits are limited. Under previous CBAs a player who qualified could receive a full Bird contract and go to the team of his choice, which encouraged the player to seek a sign-and-trade once he decided to play elsewhere. Under the current CBA a player receives the same contract via sign-and-trade (four years, 4.5% raises) that he could get by signing with his new team directly, and can receive a larger Bird contract only if he stays with his previous team. In addition, it is much simpler for the player to sign directly with his new team, as a sign-and-trade has to be agreed to by three parties rather than two. A player is really only forced to seek a sign-and-trade if he wants to go to a team that is capped-out (or doesn't have enough cap room to give the player his full starting salary) and can't sign him directly. Another factor encouraging a player not to seek a sign-and-trade is that his new team might be weakened by losing players or draft picks in the trade. So while a sign-and-trade is a useful tool when the team does not have the cap room to sign the player directly, the player and his new team have little reason to seek a sign-and-trade when the player can be signed without involving his previous team.
