Be an unrestricted free agent.

I really think people are underestimating how huge this is.
It means teams can throw any offer they want at him and it only take one team going full retard and tossing out $35-40 to see him likely gone.
And using the tag isn't ideal because his agent will use that as the price point they should be aiming for, otherwise he'll ride it out another year.
I think the Transition Tag may be our only option aside from just letting him be a FA. It sets the price around $36 mil and gives us right of first refusal which offers some protection and means we have him for at least one more year unless a team overbids.
That price is more affordable than the Franchise Tag, which is about $43 mil. To get that we'd have to make a cut or two (though we are right around $40 mil under next year at the moment). $36 mil is doable but still not ideal.
Last time Drew's agent used the tag price as the sticking point and I have no doubt they are trying to get close to that again (at the very least in fully guaranteed money).
The gap was likely so wide it didn't make sense to keep talking, so it's not surprising that there have been no talks in two months.
