I see the Dan Carlin's podcast are numbered, I was thinking you had to listen in order?

He's got his History series and Common Sense series. You can listen to the History in any order you want. Well, some of them like the Khans and Blueprint for Armeggedon are a series of 4 or 5 episodes that you should listen to in order.

Try starting on his website. I'm not sure how it's broken out on iTunes, but on the website it's clearly delineated between Hardcore History and Common Sense. Then the Hardcore Histories are further broken down into specific series about a certain conquest, time period, or theater. Pick which one you want and then search for that episode number on iTunes.
That's how I did it atleast. You'll be lost as hell if you jump into the WWI series three episodes in, for example.
