Yep, Cal stirring it up. Nice subtle shot regarding Thornton. Also, Sellech is missing the point what Cal the intention of who receives the message...this was directed to Boldon who is deciding between UK and Duke (recruit).

John Wall, Brandon Knight, and Karl Anthony Towns are working on completing their degrees at UK. Let's not act like Duke players are the only ones are currently completing their degrees.

Y'all are missing the point of what Cal said. He said what he did to subtly point out that K forced Thornton to transfer while promising him the same "duke for life" support.
Thornton was never 'forced to transfer.' That's UK/UNC deranged message board fodder. Even Thornton's crazy uncle didn't allege that in his twitter tantrum. They are pissed that THornton reclassified to come to Duke a year early (and missed a bunch of worthless exhibition games) and wasnt the star of the show as they thought he would be, which is fair game for discussion. If K was going to force someone out, it wouldnt have been the only true point guard on his roster, he would have rescinded Jack White's scholarship offer. Try again.
Secondly both teams use one and done's, let's move past the Degree straw man argument. This is nothing more than an arms race. I think the most interesting development is that Roy Williams has been pushed aside as an elite recruiter.

false. he was forced out. And, he didn't force out his only "true point guard"...he recruited a true point guard to take his place. And, then he needed him to leave so he had room for Bolden. Of course no one is going to say "they forced me out" or "we forced him to transfer"...but, that's what happened behind closed doors.

Why would he force out the 5* possible future NBA player PG instead of a walk on who got a scholarship? Seriously, think these things over before making yourself look dumb.
And Frank Jackson is certainly not a true PG.

oh ok, you'd think Thornton's uncle would have mentioned that when he was imploding on twitter, but he didn't. But go ahead, I'm sure you know more than Thornton's immediate family.

Jackson isn't even a true point guard. Just wait til next season when Allen starts the year at point guard. You Duke haters are so comically deranged you will just make up anything to suit your agenda.

I am wondering why the kid reclassified to only transfer a year later, hmmmmmmmmmmm.

You guys are dense. What do you think these coaches tell these guys?? He told Thornton the truth...his minutes would go down this year. That's what happens in the post-season meetings. He doesn't say, "we need you to leave." But, he tells him the things he needs to hear to leave. There's no real difference.

Your story is changing and still makes no sense.
Very few players have a guaranteed starting role, Matt Jones started on a NC team and may not start as a senior. If Thornton needed a certain amount of minutes to stay then he left on his own, he wasn't forced out.
And again, why would they do that to Thornton when they could have forced out much lesser players?

It doesn't work with "lesser" players:
K: Hey, benchwarmer, you are not going to play next year.
Player: Yeah. I know. All good.
But, it does work with highly recruited players:
K: Hey, Thornton, your minutes are going to go down next year.
Thornton: shite. That doesn't work for me. I need to get to the league. I need minutes.

P.S. To be fair, Cal did the same thing to Ryan Harrow. Harrow claims he transferred to be closer to his sick father. Not true. He had the exact conversation with Cal that Thornton had with Coach K.

More like "Hey walk on with a rich father that never planned on being a scholarship player, we need that back." Ok coach.
And the Thornton rumors have been around since December, before Duke was a major player for Bolden. But keep believing a theory that defies logic because you want it to be true.

That isn't what you were alleging to begin with, though. Obviously Thornton would have seen a reduction in minutes, and yes that likely played a role in his decision, although his dad and 'uncle' were mad from the get go that he wasnt the team's focal point on offense. That's hardly the same thing as K deliberately 'forced him out.' How does that even work? Did Thornton show up at the locker room one day and security was there waiting for him?
K could have easily rescinded Jack White's offer to make room for Bolden.

his family didn't like the way he was used? It happens all the time in basketball. 5 star comes in with unrealistic expectations, isn't as good as he thought he was, and transfers out. Any other school it would be a non-story, but of course Duke has a ton of obsessive haters who spend their free time concocting conspiracy theories.

Coach K is correct, that Duke Degree will get you into many places, while the Kentucky degree gets you into the Yum brands work force.

Oh, Cal forced Harrow out the door...but Harrow checked out mid season in the locker-room in Fayettenam after a loss. Harrow walked out on them and basically quit the team after having a mental breakdown.
