Caught this black mamba today (although it might be a black racer - I didn't let it bite me to see if I'd die to properly identify it). No fire required. The way he was curled, I actually thought it was a rubber snake at first. Some kids put a rubber snake back on the trail a while back and I've been fooled before. Walked right up to it and realized it was real. Didn't even take off, my dog and I just walked right up to it and I grabbed it. Easiest black racer catch I've ever made - and certainly the most docile I've ever handled. Second snake this year - caught a little ribbon snake in the yard a few weeks ago.
