If you do take that big tree out, you probably still won't get enough sun light (depends) to properly grow them. Plus your yard isn't that big, so it would be best to just sod it up. Although, you may be able to put them in the back yard or something.
Crepe Myrtles are bad arse and they are very abundant where I live. In fact I just saw a guy the other day trying to cut grass under one with his riding mower.
