One's really got nothing to do with the other. I was trying to raise the absurdity of your saying "half off is more than fair."

Why is that absurd? It's more than fair.

The only thing that's absurd is that you think that if we don't give everything for free that we're somehow leaving them twisting in the wind.

Absolutely not. Just because you value their service at "half" doesn't mean they're petty or petulant enough to call you on it.

Quite the opposite. I support them 100%, which is why I support civilians paying twice as much as veterans do for a permit.

I get tired of this unnecessary hero worship. I'm grateful for and appreciate their service, but the constant self aggrandizement gets on my nerves. I thought they were supposed to teach humility and gratefulness in the military. If you want to serve your country, I applaud you and am grateful for your service but stop trying to demonize those that don't agree with your lust for handouts. Did you sign up to serve your country or did you sign up to get free shite?

Here's what I want you to do - I want you to imagine that you have a bunch of folks who volunteer for the regular army, national guard, reserve, what have you. Every one of them gets fingerprinted, national agency checked, annually drug tested, annually checked on their proficiency at arms, annually checked for medical readiness, annually checked for HIV, annually checked for physical fitness. In some cases they're put in charge of armed aircraft, armed vehicles, machineguns - all kinds of gee whiz shite to not only directly defend us, but to also go out there, close with and destroy the enemy - not sanctioned by the civilian authority mind you, but ORDERED by the civilian authority.

And now - you want those folks to come to the state with a check for the right to conceal a pistol on their person to defend themselves or their families out and about in public?

Laughably absurd on its face. But, go ahead and think of this in the same way you do folks down at the Waffle House giving guys in uniform a breakfast combo for half price.
