Absolutely in no way, shape, or form should this be the coach's decision. Pass it on the to the parents. They can help keep them informed, but that's overstepping their bounds.

No way a coach should be deciding what they think is best or not to pass along. Do teachers decide what college students that are offered academic scholarships go to? They can give their opinion but the info shouldn't be hidden.

Jimmy, this is a perfect example of why trying to fix it coach by coach won't be the ticket. Has to be a rule change to take the coaches out of the way.

I think you're right on --the HS coaches should see their role as being informational.

Just so we're clear, I don't think there is any justification for a HS coach to withhold letters.
