Figured...what about the programming software and settings in the box...im guessing they are pretty much the same in that regard.

You can do little to nothing to alter your modem settings. Even firmware upgrades have to be managed by Cox. I don't know what, if anything, would make the CM600 perform better (ignoring number of downstream channels) than another modem. It's fairly new, and it's actually better to go with an older, more established modem that's been deployed long enough to have undergone several firmware updates and wider adoption (still keeping specs in mind, obviously).
