I have no research to substantiate this, but I would assume a very large majority of these suicides are the result of hard economic times in which the man feels he can no longer provide for himself and those around him. At the risk of sounding racist, many black men abandon their families and have learned to live on very small monetary rations.

This is a big factor. It is essentially the "pride" factor that people put a lot of stock into.
Divorces, kids who lose their way and become criminals, getting laid off of a good job and have a tough time finding another, etc. Drug habit they can't kick perhaps.
