I think they made smarter design choices like X86 architecture but overall it's true. They launched $400 machines and the PS3 for example launched at $600. Factor those prices in with inflation and you can see how they aren't as powerful as before.

Exactly. I remember saving up all my money from my summer construction job after 8th grade so I could buy a 360. It literally took the entire summer to save for it. I got my Xbone as X-mas present in undergrad, but it would have taken me like 2 weeks of waiting tables to buy one. It's pretty clear to me that the entry version of these consoles is a cheaper overall product.
