Unless your doctor does a blood test and shows you that your serotonin is low I wouldn't take one. Ssris add serotonin to your brain and if your levels are good then its not gonna work and you may get crappy side effects like sleep problems etc etc. Doctors just throw ssris at everyone nowadays just hoping they'll work. That's why when you read reviews on people who take Ssris, it's always split 50/50. The people who hate them aren't suffering from low serotonin. Too much serotonin isn't good. They're are 3 types of depression/anxiety causes and low serotonin is only one. Your diet is another. You may be low in certain vitamins.

I took paxil for anxiety about 4 years ago and it ruined my life for 4 months. Xanxax is ok but it is too short acting and doctors don't like prescribing it. However if your serotonin is low an ssri may change your life for the better. Just get tested first. I prefer a valium every other day. Dont drink on an ssri either. Big mistake. I did once and ended up fighting my brother in law at a family function. Bad times. I was checking everyones knuckles lol. If you smoke pot, I would suggest temporarily quitting during bouts of anxiety, until you're out of the woods.

Thank you. That's definitely good to know. I just know I've hit that point where getting by just isn't cutting it any longer.
