watched this last night. i was really pumped to watch a period piece gangster movie, but it was pretty shitty
OK, getting this out of the way: hardy was amazing.
HOW-EVA, it feels like too much time and too many resources were devoted to that aspect of the film, and there simply wasn't enough put into the story, structure, pacing, etc.
the biggest structural issue is the tone. the tone of this movie was all over the place and it really removed any care towards the characters or story. at some points it was slapstick comedy, dark comedy, serious relationship-emotional drama, serious crime movie, etc.
also, the love interest is played by the actress who played babydoll in sucker punch. it looks like she's anorexic now

Good movie for the first forty minutes, then you realize there is no story just interactions between the brothers.
The brothers were funny, though. Tom hardy did a good job.
She is the same size in all her movies. She is 5'1

I did enjoy this movie, and Tom Hardy was amazing as usual in this movie, but I definitely agree with you when you say this.
There was really no plot which I thought was dumb. It was just about the interaction between Reggie and Ronnie Kray, and the love story of Reggie and Frances. They were just kind of lazy with putting a story together.

they spent a lot of time on too much shite
if it was about the relationships, they spent too much time focusing on things like the police. i mean when you think about what brought them down (which was rushed itself), it had little to do with the police following them during the earlier part of the movie
i think they also spent too much time trying to force a relationship/interaction b/w ronnie and frances, because ultimately it didn't really pay off in any meaningful way. ronnie's conflict was with their job/status and how that affected reggie. reggie's main conflict was with frances and ronnie fricking up their enterprise. keep it simple and efficient and things will flow better
it's a crime movie that didn't really do much crime and a relationship movie that was complicated and surface level at the same time

Exactly. It could have been an even better crime movie considering Reggie and Ronnie Kray are two interesting human beings, but they blew on that aspect.

One of our most anticipated movies of that year. Huge Hardy fans.
Big letdown. Seemed like they thought they could give Hardy the two major roles and the audience wouldn't notice that it was a boring story.
