Three guys from work and I went out to play 9 at a local course after work one day. One of our group, Dan, is not a frequent golfer and isn't horrible but isn't very good either. Despite that, he tends to have a low boiling point and gets frustrated and down on himself a lot. He was also playing with an ancient set of clubs that Bobby Jones might have used at some point and carrying them around in a bag at least as old.
On this particular day we were walking and were on the 9th hole. Dan was already at the end of his rope. He had hit a number of bad shots and after each one, you could hear him muttering under his breath about what a shitty golfer he was, what the hell was he even doing out here, etc. So we all teed off on 9 with Dan going last. He topped his drive and it rolled maybe 75 yards down the fairway and we all started off to our own balls. Dan's shot had not met his expectations and he picked up his bag, slung it over his shoulder and on his way up the fairway slammed the driver down into his relic of a golf bag.
The impact of the club on the bottom of the bag was more than it could take. The bottom of the bag blew out, spilling all of his clubs into the middle of the fairway. The rest of us heard the noise and turned around to witness the yard sale and Dan, red-faced, trying to gather up his clubs. We all just lost it and doubled over laughing. The rest of that hole was hysterical with Dan's useless golf bag on one shoulder and all his clubs gathered up haphazardly in his arms like Steve Martin in The Jerk. Every time he hit another shot (which he did a lot) he'd have to drop all his clubs on the ground and then re-gather them up afterwards. I don't think I ever laughed that much on a golf course.
