Well his mother is white so he's at least mixed.. So if he's mixed what's wrong if he doesn't want to be labeled black. Perhaps he is proud of who is is, and part of that is white, part of it is black as well.

I don't see him saying call me white. He's simply saying don't call me black. It's not that he's ashamed of being black, he probably finds it disrespectful that his white heritage is being completely left out when people just refer to him as black.
