Not all classes are like that. Thermo for example was a question like the homework, but with a curveball thrown in so that you had to know the material to get it. Couldn't plug and chug. Statics was exactly like the homework. It's all about time management since it is a page worth of work to show for 3 problems in an hour. But not that difficult of you know what you are doing.
As someone else said, Statics is where I made friends. That's when you start to get to know people and trade example problems.

Well yeah, that's the point...
You have what you practiced, but that extra thing is to see if you've mastered it.
I do the same things on my tests. It's not a curveball it's a test of understanding.
You can study something until you are blue in the face, but if you cannot use it then you don't deserve an A.
