ok...I've got a decent mixed bag of knives right now, but I really want some NICE ones. Our registry will allow for group gifts so they can be pricier.
What would y'all recommend in the ~600-800 range. Maybe up to $1,000
TIA

We went with Zwilling J.a. Henckels and they are great. Would highly recommend.

It is bad luck to give knives as a wedding present.

Only if their last name is Bobbitt.

I have a global chefs knife and adore it. I haven't had the steak knives that you'd get as a set, but I can't imagine they're bad.
Got my chefs knife for like $80 on Amazon. They're very reasonably priced. And Anthony Bourdain is a huge fan.

Globals are lighter, generally speaking, with a smaller handle diameter. To me, you need to hold several different brands to determine which suits you. Many Sur La Table stores will allow you to test chop with the knife in store.

Globals are for people with baby hands

I got those Miss you, Cape.
Yeah, hungryone is right. I love the lightness and find myself hating other knives. But everyone is different. I have the Vixtorinox chefs knife at my apartment since I don't do much cooking there, and even though it is sharp, the handle is way too bulky for me to reach for it over the Global if they were side by side. Still, some people like bulkier knives with little chance of slippage.
