Jackson/Bienville wma out for bid

Heard today it is now out for bid to public starting at around $12 an acre. Some may know that 7,000 acres of it was lost to public a few years back. Now the other 25,000 acres is pretty much gone from public use. My son and I have spent a lot of time out there, was getting ready to start taking my youngest out there this year. Done a lot of hunting, berry picking, and some fishing at JB. It's up on the Weyerhaeuser website now. North La already lost a wma in union parish last year. Leases going up and wma' are closing down. Just thought some of you may care to know.

Sad, but the gubment couldn't care less if we (the public) have a place to hunt. Slowly choking hunting out of National Forests also, and too broke to keep us the Sportsmans' Paradise.

I hate to hear that. Drank lots of beer on those back roads while I was at Tech. That's a big blow to North LA hunters. I guess I'm part of the problem in my line of work, but unfortunately hunting has become a rich man's sport.

Sounds like hunting in Louisiana is becoming a rich man's sport. From what people who have left leases here and now travel to Arkansas and Mississippi it is still decent there with leasing and public land.

The gubment doesn't own the land, Weyerhaeuser does. If you wanna be mad, be mad at the paper company who has to make money instead of having their land as a WMA that the public enjoyed and now can't.

Probably end up goin for 4 or 5 grand an acre. I'd take a run at it if it was sectioned off. Lol my pockets ain't as deep as Weyerhaeuser's

They are not selling the property... the state's lease rights are up for renewal and instead of renewing they are putting the property up for bid with the LDWF having first rights to match the high bid to keep the land public.
$10-$12/acre is where the bids are starting. The property looks to be broken up into 5,000 acre blocks. I don't think the state will match these bids so the WMA will go away and it will become several private 5,000 acre leases or hunting clubs.
