If Klinsmann wasn't in over his head, we could have had guys like Yedlin and Pulisic playing for the U-23 team but the technical director had to pull up those guys to save the coach's job.

This. And did we really need to have Pulisic play ten meaningless minutes against Guatemala or should we have him help our U-23 team qualify for an important tournament? We never needed to worry about cap tying this kid. And we should be able to feel comfortable enough in defeating Guatemala at home that we don't feel the need to call in Yedlin, when fullback was a key position of need for the U-23s (see: Acosta playing out of position at left back). Also, Green, who Klinsmann took to the World Cup over the best player in our history, failed to step foot on the field for a U-23 match when it mattered most (almost two years after his selection to that WC squad). All of these things reflect poorly on Klinsmann, as both a coach and a technical director, and should not be forgotten in the disappointment of missing out on the olympics again.
