When you think ponds, think terrestrials. That's what makes up a significant portion of the largemouth diet.

Frogs, hoppers, snakes, mice, and birds.

Then you also have much smaller shad populations typically so they are feeding on fathead minnows, sunfish, and crawfish.



then for ease of fishing you have to work around thick vegetation which often comes all the way to the surface.


I like weedless, shallow running baits in general for ponds.


H&H double Colorado blade spinner baits
various top water frogs
Zara spook and spook puppy
pop R
Rapala floating minnows in smaller sizes
soft plastic stick baits
short Carolina rigs with worm of choice
wacky worms
buzz baits
texas rigged worms in certain situations
