Vernon Butler. I've got a really great vibe on this guy. Just reminds me so much of Muhammad Wilkerson.

It reminds me about the year that most Saints fans wanted the popular pick in Lincoln Kennedy, but the Saints took the little known Roaf.

Would like a trade down, but if it's not there I would go ahead and draft him at 12. I know it's overdrafting a little, but he's the guy I really want.

Not at 12. He could even be there in the 2nd round.

there's a very definitive consensus that he's not available in 2nd round for us. shite happens all the time on draft day that's against the grain from mockers. Not saying we picking him at 12 but it's not completely unforeseeable either.

And that's why I said that I would like a trade down. I understand it is overdrafting. Just have a feeling about the guy.

Look I know this will be an unpopular opinion because of where we draft, but that's the crapshoot of the draft. Guys that you think are for sure top 10 picks bust out all the time.

If I could trade down to the upper 20's, I would in a heartbeat. Just not as easy as people make it out to be.

With as deep as this DT class is, I would think there is a decent chance he is there in the 2nd.

Would lose it if we got Rankins in the 1st and Butler in the second.

I fricking love statements like this.

If you KNOW someone is going to be an absolute stud but you "think" they will be there later....wait...and miss.

Shame shame.

And I am not talking about this prospect. Just the idea that pick 17 is too high but 49 is ok. If they become a stud you didn't reach, you properly evaluated

But if you take him near where he's supposed to go you have the chance of getting two studs with your first two picks. That's how you get a franchise changing draft

I agree with you, but how do you know where he is supposed to go for sure? Only way to know for sure is to pass on that prospect and see where he is drafted by another team.

people keep saying 12 is overdrafting him, but he did just get invited to the NFL Draft in Chicago so the league must think he's going to be selected on Thursday

I think this year is perfectly set up for a trade down. There are lots of teams needing QBs with at least 3-4 solid ones available. Teams needing a QB will want ahead of other teams needing QBs.

I don't want to trade down. Move down a few spots for what, another 4th rounder? Nah stay up there and grab your highest rated player

I agree completely if that were true. But with this particular prospect, I cannot say I KNOW he is going to be an absolute stud. I think he is closer to a 2nd rounder than #12.

In all honesty, your comment is kinda ridiculous in that no one knows who the absolute studs are going to be, including NFL scouts.

I like Butler a LOT. But I think #12 is too high. Love to see the Saints trade back and grab him in the 20's.

I feel the same. "I wouldn't take him at 12, but I'd take him at 15-25." Reminds me of last year when people bitched that 31 was a reach for Anthony, but they would have taken him at 44.

If you think a prospect is best on the board, and he won't be there by your next pick, then you have to take him. Of course you can always try to trade back, but that would mean a team would have to want to give up assets to trade up. It's hard to imagine a team receiving a phone call, out of the blue, from a team wanting to trade down, and accepting the deal. There's a difference between not wanting to take someone (ie Butler) at 12 because you believe there are better prospects on the board, and because you just think "12 is too high."

Where did you see this? Last year, there were many players picked on the 2nd day that were invited. They significantly expanded the number of players invited last year (not sure how many invited this year).
