Rumor has it that the tradition started with the reign of Napoleon III who was jealous of the attention garnered by Catherine the Great with her pony fetish. Some of the guys I was working with in S TX went to a donkey show in Nuevo Laredo. One of the girls did some tricks using fruit. One of our dumbass hands walked down to the stage - took one of her bananas - peeled it and ate it. That stupid bastard was deathly ill for about 3 days.
