I can't understand the praise these troopers and agents get here for shooting someone in the back, even after seeing shots fired immediately after he exits the vehicle.

The dude had already attempted to kill people, it was known he was armed and dangerous. The dude got put down end of story.

i guess they should have waited for him to actually shoot a cop first?

What praise? I said they were shooting at the vehicle as it was going toward them. Was it the drivers intent to run through it? Was it his intent to harm? We don't know. However, You have to make those assumptions as a police officer. Because if you don't, it will be your life instead of his/hers. The moment you deduce a real threat given that this person is fleeing cops at high speeds and has alread let it be known that physical force would be necessary to stop him, you can't hesitate. You're all in.
