Home audio option 1 vs option 2 question

Ok, here goes:
Option 1)
currently I have a Definitive Technology ProCinema 600 with th L/C/R and the subwoofer from that set. Then I have 4 ceiling speakers that are all powered by a Pioneer Elite VSX 50 receiver
Option 2)
Sell off all of the above and go with a Sonos Playbar to act as the L/C/R speakers and then a Sonos connect:amp to power the 4 ceiling speakers
Would I lose a lot of surround sound or sound quality? All of the shows we watch are through AppleTV so there's not a ton of action packed thumping movies anyways. The benefit is that my kids couldn't mess or change shite on my receiver, which would in turn make my wife happy.
Any thoughts?

Option 1. Put the receiver in a closet and run an ir extender.

Is the sound from that ProCinema 600 much better than the Sonos gear? I've only ever owned this ProCinema 600 so dunno how to stack em up against each other.

Option 1
Sonos is not for home theater

That's not really true though.
The Sonos playbar can be paired with two play 1s or 3s as a simulated 5.1 system.
Just curious how that sounds vs my option 1 setup previously mentioned.

It's just not the same.

I've got Sonos and love it for a few reasons. The sounds quality is really good with the soundbar and sub - certainly not "audiophile" quality, but way more than fine for normal living room sound. Secondly, it is simple to use. The wife can use an iphone app to control the whole thing (which is incredibly easy to use) versus a complicated programmable remote that essentially only I would know how to use.
If you're outfitting a true media room, I'd probably opt for your option 1. However, for any other typical application like a living room, Sonos is perfect.
