The same way you sell an elite controller. This isn't necessary but it is better. I think there are a lot of people halfway through a generation that would love their game to run at 1080 60fps instead of 900/30. They can do other things too obviously.

I see your point. I wonder if they will have multiple Xbox SKUs in the future. A base model, one with certain upgrades, etc..

If they do have different SKU's, here's why I think they'll make these upgradeable. What if I buy a lower one simply because of money reasons or whatever, but down the road I can afford a higher end one. Will my only option be to buy that higher end console?

Yea. Why is that unreasonable? People buy a brand new tablet all the time and those things are sometimes more expensive than consoles. Hell, some people buy a new one every year to browse the Internet with.

If they were not up gradable then why not just get a pc. The point is to make them upgradeable not come out with a different version every year. With the advent of up gradable consoles the line between pc and console is going to be very thin. Also am I wrong in thinking pc games will be playable on Xbox one in the future?

Why not get a PC to begin with? People want consoles for many different reasons. One of the biggest reason is because they just want it to work without thinking about it. That's why you can just sell them a better one. You also need a mass market device for gaming that the average person will buy. A PC is not that.

Cost and quality is the big difference. I game at 1440 and no console can provide that, but I paid a price to be able to do it.

Some people are dumb. And it's a different deal if all the SKU's are released at the same time. If they taper their release, that's another story.

should of been done years ago

Xbox Two Lite: $399
Xbox Two Home: $499
Xbox Two Pro: $599
Then a year or 2 later they release a fourth tier and drop prices for the previous.
Xbox Two Lite: $299
Xbox Two Home: $399
Xbox Two Pro: $499
Xbox Two Elite: $599
What I'm curious about is how do they tell consumers their Lite console will no longer play the newest games? Perhaps everything goes digital and the Xbox / MS store simply knows what system you're on and tells you the game you're trying to purchase won't run on your current model.

I really think they will just release a refresh with better specs down the road. I don't think they will release different skus at the same time.
Posted on 3/2/16 at 2:48 pm to DieDaily
So in your scenario, on the extreme end of my example, someone would pay just over $1,000 in two years for a console.
And if someone wants to go from pro to elite, that's over $1,200.

I don't think they will do that nor do I think that's a good idea. Devious and I have already figured this out guys. We are in contact with Phil Spencer as we speak.

quote:What happens to the old SKU when they release the new one? Do they totally stop selling it? If we're using Apple as the example, they currently have 3 versions of the iPad for sale and 3 versions of the iPhone for sale (excluding the "Plus" line, which would bump this example up to 5). If MS followed this model, you'd be in the same scenario I presented above within 3 years.

quote:I'm not proposing that MS should do what I presented above, I'm just brainstorming about what they could do and seeing what y'all think. Maybe MS makes a proprietary CPU, GPU, RAM all-in-one cart that you insert into your Xbox Two and it powers the system?

Xbox Two Base: $299
Xbox Two Lite Cart: $99
Xbox Two Home Cart: $199
Xbox Two Pro Cart: $299
The base does nothing on it's own without the PowerCart®.

Maybe they could consider selling it as a service as well. Most people dont outright buy their new phones. They buy it with a plan and pay for it over time. Do the same thing with consoles.
Posted on 3/2/16 at 3:21 pm to DieDaily
Under my plan, "lockbox", they would cut the generation in half with it. Wait 4-6 years until the consoles show their age a little and offer a refresh. You can even keep the older console on the marker as a cheaper version. They all play the same games, but the newer one is better.

Maybe but have advancements changed that much for what fits in a $400 console?
