Dropped out of high school to enlist during WWII. He tended to play characters older than his chronological age because of his shock of white hair - although Judge Smails was about right (Knight was 57 in 1980). Great timing - great reactions and could play a comic heavy or a goofy good guy.

Between the MTM show and Too Close for Comfort he had a nice run on TV in the 70's and 80's

He probably would have had more work, but he had serious health problems by the mid-1980's and died not long after. I heard he was a good guy to work with.
