I started watching it a few months ago and just was not impressed with the first two seasons. I decided to give it another go starting at season 3. I have to say, it's pretty damn funny. It seems like everyone has hit their stride. Am I to assume that it just gets better as I go along?
Yeah Seinfeld took two years to figure itself out. As far as getting better as it goes along...sorta. Once it hits its stride it's pretty consistently great, though the last two seasons are a bit of a tonal shift and are a little controversial. I don't personally find the last two seasons any less funny, just different.
The fact that Seinfeld started out a little rough but given time became the greatest sitcom of its era is why I lost a lot of respect for Jerry when he weighed in on the Tonight Show fiasco in 2010. Jerry, who is Leno's buddy, basically told Conan that he should have been able to pull in the numbers seven months in. Nevermind that in his case there was a patient NBC executive willing to give his struggling show two years and a much stronger lead-in (Cheers) to find its audience.

In fairness, The Tonight Show was already a hot commodity. I love Conan, but I think that audience needs a more conventional, safe host. Again, I love Conan, but I don't think Jerry was wrong.

I didn't know this. 8 & 9 are my favorites.

i remember watching it starting with the second episode and worrying it was going to get cancelled. I used to check the Nielson ratings that came out once per week in the Times Picayune.
