I'm not going to blame any parent for this. What are parents supposed to do? Take every gun away from every child?
Woah!

I watched it. Couldn't help but feel sorry for her.

These dudes had a weapon collection large enough to outfit a decent militia. There's 0% chance anyone with a half working brain could not notice that if they "dug around." She's full of shite.
Not quite that many weapons. Tec 9, Hi Point carbine and two shotguns.
Mostly homemade bombs that were, fortunately, crude and ineffective.

I felt terrible for the mother too.
She has more courage than her ex husband and Harris' parents combined.

Man, if only those high schoolers were safely and responsibly armed, the Columbine massacre never would've been.

To get a perspective, how old are you, and do you have any kids?
All parent / child relationship is an exercise on trust, communication, and allowing the child grow.
No child wants to have room invaded all the time, yet parents by all means have a right to know if your child is up to no good.
Was there anything in those kids` youth , anything, that the parents should have forced tbe kids to go to therapy, or whatever you'd do with a potential mass murderer?
I talk to my kids every day. They don't get in trouble, they aren't stashing weapons. But if one of them snapped, I would be the most surprised and disappointed of all.
The only "mistake" these Columbine kids` parents may have was to not know everything they could know about their kids. But really, do you think those kids were going to tell their folks their plans for that fateful day?
Unfortunately, mass murderers are more than likely above the average IQ, and tbese kids knew well how to hide their intentions from everyone, including their friends and teachers. ( Except for the class photo where they act like they're aiming a gun at the photographer)

Watching this, this kid's mother keeps saying how she missed "signs" from him, including the boys experimenting with a pipe bomb and then a 10-page list of threats found online, and the mother dug through his room when he was out and didn't see anything out of the ordinary.
Before I watched 20/20 with Sue Klebold, I read pretty much everything on Columbine info
It is my understanding that it was Eric Harris that had the website, not Dylan Klebold.
It is also my understanding that the weapons were obtained MAYBE 6 months before the massacre. That would have made it October 1998, his senior year of high school. The mom didn't go through his room after his junior year.
I still think it was Harris that had most of the bomb ingredients in his basement bedroom. Obviously his parents didn't invade his privacy either.

Go read "Columbine" by Dave Cullen. It is the most comprehensive study and examination of the entire event, from the early warning signs to the aftermath.
Klebold was basically a depressed teenager that had the misfortune of befriending a psychopath like Harris. Klebold needed someone to take cues from and Harris was by all accounts incredibly charsimatic (as are most psychopathic individuals). Harris's plans to basically kill everyone on Earth fed right into Klebold's depression.
If there's anything his mom could have done, it would have been to get him into serious therapy asap or move. Obviously not something you just do to/for your kid, though, without some serious inclination for what's going on. Would be really interested to hear from Harris's dad (from what I recall reading, he was a staunch ex-military guy).

I'm pretty sure the Harris parents met with one of the victim's families (or more) in person. They acknowledging their son was a psychopath which can't be easy.

I am in my mid 40's and have two kids one of whom is about to graduate high school.
Your reasoning is one of the examples of flawed logic today. Think about your phrasing of "THEIR room INVADED" by parents.
Did the teen pay for the mortgage or rent?
Are parents invading territory OR simply walking around in a room that they own and looking at items that they purchased?
And if you are wondering:
1. I have never searched my kids rooms.
2. I have never had to spank one of my kids.
3. I have never had one word of disrespect from my kids in my home towards me or my wife.
Why?
I spend ALL my time away from work WITH them. We go on vacations and take their friends with us. We keep them involved at church. When there is a team party/spend the night, it's at MY house.
The biggest reason I did not make more bad decisions when I was a teen was because of my relationship with my grandfather. He had the strongest character of any man I have ever met. I knew how much he loved me by how much time and energy he spent with me. I was terrified of disappointing him.
If you think that spending time is too much of a burden, don't have children. Sorry for the semi-rant, but society can't raise testosterone filled boys. Only the family can.

Harris was the Eddie Haskell of the 1990s.
