Then you're completely missing the point. the WELFARE people sit on their arse all day and do nothing to better their lives = hurt the state
COLLEGE STUFENTS receiving tops to better their lives results in better jobs and more taxes for the state = help the state. Wasn't so hard now was it?

Democrats spend like drunken sailors. And they buy votes with giveaway programs. Comes a time we all have to pay for this. That time may be now...

Recruiting board. Take all this garbage to the political board. KLFY just reported the state will provide funding for 80% of the TOPS program with universities to fund 20%. Politics..... Get a life.

Again, you didn't read my post, you just blindly defend. Classic liberal propaganda.
I clearly stated programs that help young people get an education and become assets to our society is far from being an entitlement program.
Spin that as you will.....

Those kind of people can't see TOPS for what it truly is. They think it's a handout so people can sit at home and do absolutely nothing with their lives.

If you think TOPS and Welfare are the same you sir are a tool. TOPS gives kids a chance at higher education, which improves Louisiana in a number of ways. Whats Welfare do, besides enable more laziness???

(No) government will ever admit to having sufficient money...it will always want more. The model for gaining public support is simple enough, tried & proven - blame your political opponents, make it appear a crisis of doomsday proportions, threaten the alternative to tax increases with loss of the most visible, necessary & popular things possible. The tactics are as despicable as they are effective but the average voter merely makes decisions on sound bites and spoon fed "news". Too bad the comments on this matter made by State Treasurer John Kennedy do not get the same play - he's the lone voice in the wilderness when it comes to financial responsibility.

Welfare keeps the hungry from starving. TOPS keeps the middle class content. I actually had a TOPS scholarship, but I also had over a 4.0 in high school and a 28 ACT. Too many marginal students are being paid to flunk out in the current iteration.

That probably applies to about 5%.... Welfare is grossly abused. Just like Medicaid. 900million in Medicaid fraud.
You cant be that naive can you?

What would they do if they can't buy their big gulps and flamming hot fries? Because that's the kind of shite people spend mine and your money on. They aren't starving, they are fat lazy fricks.

I hardly call morbidly obese people "starving"
You are a clown

When will you dumbasses realize Democrats and Republicans are the exact same. They each paint a different picture but it all comes back around to the same goddamn thing in a different way. The two party system is part of everything wrong with our current voting system in America. Hell, we don't even vote for the President when you look at how he's put into office. Popular votes doesn't even matter.
But no, let's just point the fingers at the single party that's in office now! Let's forget about the guy who was just in office who punted it off to him and the one before Jindal that punted to him too! What has either Democrats or Republicans done for this country the past 25 years besides frick it up more? People have the mentality, "well, I'm going to vote Pub just to keep a Dem out of office simply because they can never be worse even though they already suck!"
I don't go for that lesser evil crap. If I don't like the candidates I sure as hell not voting for either and will look elsewhere. I wish more people realized just how royally screwed up not just the two party system is in America but our entire voting system itself.
