Cookouts the Tchefuncte all the way up to the Three Rivers Junction (Tchefuncte, Abita, Bogue Falaya) and you'll be looking right at my backyard!

Caught a decent bit of bass and a small rat red right around the rice fields down the high bridge canal. Also caught a couple of bass fishing well north of I-12 off of the main river. Fish can be had but I'd rather go somewhere else than fish on the Tchefuncte

You see, many moons ago, a Native American tribe was traveling through present day Louisiana. The tribe came up to a to a river, the chief of the tribe went up close to the bank, squatted and took a big shite in the river, when the turd hit the water, it made the sound "tchefuncte" hence the name the Tchefuncte River.

It is really difficult. Rice fields have been very productive when water is draining.
I have a friend who fishes many tournaments and on good days can get 12-15lb stringers off of it. He fishes real deep with ol monster type baits texas rigged with 1/4 oz or bigger sinker

You can catch plenty of spotted bass in river north the Hammond Highway. Put a kayak in at Bennett Bridge Road and head south. I've fished the banks and have caught fish on a small Rapala jointed minnow and beetle spins. It helps if you know folks who own property along the river.

Try fishing DEEP, but the problem is you get hunk up on old trees and stuff on the bottom.
