The old game wasn't better.

It was just more physical and far more difficult to move the ball.

You could hug and tackle receivers at the line of scrimmage - you could murder QBs - high and low...you could take the heads off of receivers going across the middle as linebackers...it's why receiver didn't go across the middle...today they can't be touched.

No one is saying one is better...but you absolutely can't compare eras with stats...things change and the game changed. More fan friendly today, that is all.

I mean the short passing game of today has sort of taken the place of the short running game of back then right? No big deal there.. at least in my opinion.

the illegal contact fouls are horseshite though and they have no business being ruled an automatic 1st down either. That is legit bull crap there.. I'll give you that.

QB protection: It was only a matter of time. When the contracts for the position start to get insane well.. so will the agendas around them. You have a jerk off commissioner like Roger Goodell thinking he is improving the game just because he is bringing a lot of money. The game itself is super tilting because the officiating is so inconsistent. I doubt some frickhead like Goodell cares about that as long as the league isn't getting sued by a former player who played under bullshite supervision from way back when.

plenty of blame to go around.
