I took Alaska Marine Highway ferries between Haines, Skagway, Juneau and Sitka. Also Homer to Kodiak and back. Sometimes with my vehicle, sometimes not. Very enjoyable! Meet some interesting people and enjoyed some fantastic scenery.

The Ferry is very cool. Stops in Ketchikan, Wrangell, Petersburg and Juneau, terminates in Haines.
Can vouch for that. Spent 2 months in SE Alaska riding the ferry, hitchhiking, and staying in hostels as a kid. Awesome time.
Roger....do they still have covered areas with heaters?
I remember all the backpackers setup their tents under there or just slept on a cot in their bags.
