2,897 yards 18TD 10INT- Would you take it?

The first 4 games of 2015, Harris was a total non-factor in the game plan. He averaged 15 passes per game over that span. A competent QB should at a minimum complete 15 passes a game!
Following that 4 game stretch, there was more pass attempts as he averaged 27 passes per game. Extrapolating his average over those 8 games to a full 13 game season would be 2,897 yards 18TDs and 10INTs. These of course are averages so you could give or take on the final stats. Clearly, he wasn't without his flaws through that stretch. His completion percentage was just over 53% which isn't good enough. Getting to near 60% should be the goal as that would have been a SEC top 5 CMP% in 2015. Harris has work to do individually (such as completing intermediate throws) and the coaches have work to do in developing an offense that no longer lends itself to predictability. They flat out have to design better plays and situational playcalling.
I guess looking at those numbers, I'm very cautiously optimistic on Harris taking a step forward. 223 passing yards per game over that stretch somewhat gives me hope that the passing game wasn't totally lifeless but rather youthfully inconsistent at times.

as long as we have the all-star stable of running backs that we currently have, I don't think we will see much more than a minimal passing game. we would be bad to the bone if we could at least get a short range passing game going, though...

No. I don't think that stat line would win us a championship.

Which is all the more frustrating. You've got bad arse running backs and we consistently compliment them with.....?

Exactly. Beyond whatever limitations we may have had with QBs, I'm not convinced the coaches with their playcalls are doing everything they can to get successful results from the QB position. Our best hope to improve is eliminating the predictability that has plagued Miles' offenses.
ETA: I realize my timing couldn't have ben worse for discussion. Off to the superbowl thread

This will result in loses to the best teams in the country, and some of the lesser ones. How many years of a "minimal passing game" does it take to learn that this will not get a team to the playoffs?
Actually, a team can do both, have a kick arse running game and a dynamic passing game. It takes both just to get to the college football playoffs.

If Harris can just consistantly move the chains this year we will be ok

I think his injury played a big role in the interceptions he threw. I'd venture to say that a healthy BH would have a higher completion % and take care of the ball better (because his accuracy would be much improved).

what's more important that the stat line is situational stats. long pass interceptions on 3rd and long or at the end of the first half don't matter like regular down and distance interceptions. Interceptions against directional schools don't matter like they do in tight games against top SEC West teams.
That stat line is fine if the good parts come against the best 5 teams on the schedule and the bad parts come against the worst 5 teams on the schedule.

That TD/Int ratio is shite. I've seen worse but it is shite

2407 yards, 21 td's and 11 int's 56% completion rate won us a title in '07...of course we lost two regular season games that year.

I agree with this. I also expect to see a more comfortable BH this year which will also improve your numbers. I see a mid to upper level sec qb in BH this coming season. That should be enough if we see some minor improvement in a few other areas. There is reason for optimism for sure.

Yes. If our completion % was 60 or better.

What?
So the 4th most single season passing yards in lsu history and a tie for 7th most passing tds in lsh history isnt enough for us to win a title?
I swear some posters on here have no clue about lsu football history

No its not. While its not great 18tds -10 tds isnt horrible. Only 4 qbs in lsu history have thrown more than 18 tds in a season.

LSU has 2 championships in the modern era and I would bet that we had more than 18 passing touchdowns both times.

except the a&m game. we would have done better w/o a qb.

Mauck threw 28 TD in 2003.
Flynn threw 21 TD in 2007.

Youre only counting titles that lsu players and coaches have no control over whether or not they even play in the game? Why would you use titles where you are voted into the game over titles that you win your way into?

2013 was one of the greatest offensive outings for the tigers and it was just good enough to finish in the top 25 for total offense for that season.
I see what you are trying to say, but LSU has never been an offensive powerhouse consistently. So it makes no sense to compare a single LSU player's season with previous yearly LSU stats offensively.
Offenses are much more high powered these days. If we aren't breaking some type of LSU offensive record every year, then we aren't keeping up with the rest of the FBS. Those proposed stats that would have put that QB at #7 for td's and #4 for yds (on LSU's all time) would have been just good enough for a #40 ranking this past season and not even in the top half of the FBS in passing td's.
