Should I get it? I've played some of the Elder Scrolls games,(Skyrim, Oblivion, and maybe morrowind lol) and I'm curious as to how it plays in comparison to those? Obviously there's guns and what not. Also, can I jump in without playing any other fallout and enjoy it? thanks in advance

My first Bethesda game and I love it. I don't know what you are looking for but it's a good game and a Bethesda game for sure.

nah, playing previous fallouts isnt necessary at all. if you like the Bethesda vibe, youll dig Fallout. lots more action than TES though.

its really just TES with a different skin and little differences.

Very similar to Elder Scrolls. Huge world. Tons of things to explore but....weak on overall story.

The story is probably a bit weaker than normal. I'm not a fan of some of the behavior of the various factions.

Settlement building adds another dimension to the game. You don't get a huge benefit other than making some caps but I enjoy building settlements.

Don't let the story keep you from playing if you were a Skyrim fan. You could play 200 hours just exploring everything and building settlements without ever doing the main quest.

What the rest of the guys said. The only thing playing Fallout 3 would have done for you is introducing you to controls, mechanics, items, and weapons. You'll learn all of that fairly quickly, though. Fallout 3 and 4 are the only Bethesda games I've played and I love them. I enjoyed 3, but absolutely love 4.

If you like the Elder Scrolls games and Bethesda games in general, then yes you'll like it a lot.

I envy you in a position of trying fallout 4 for the first time.

Like most Bethesda games, the mechanics behind almost all of the game are garbage. I don't know how these guys keep doing it, but they take all that junk, mash it together, and it somehow becomes one of the most addicting games you'll play for the year. They do excel in world design and background storytelling, though.

Seriously: shitty story, dialog, dialog options, characters, quest design, building mechanics, choice/consequence, animations, graphics, performance..... I don't know how I made it through ~100 hours, but I did, and I enjoyed it.

So yes, you should get it.

It's basically a futuristic Elder Scrolls.
