I've long stated that it's supremely overrated, and it really doesn't age well. The acting is terrible outside of a few actors.

I will say that its success led to other superior shows like the wire.

I disagree. I found the acting pretty good, overall, with notable exceptions. The actor playing AJ was just never in the game. They cast him as a kid. He actually got worse over time, but that was as the role grew.

Ditto for Jamie Lynn Sigler - although her eye candy value really shot up over the show's run. When I watched it with Mrs. Midnight, I commented, "Do the producers know they didn't do Sigler any favors by casting such a good actor as Finn (Will Janowitz)?"

So many of her scenes were with Nurse Jackie (who was all over the place) and AJ (terrible actor), which concealed it some.

That's what hurt AJ the most, as he was in so many scenes with Gandolfini - like standing Olivier next to Keanu.

Here comes the idiots talking about how overrated it was when they just don't get it. Sorry there wasn't enough plot twists for you. Maybe more explosions would've done the trick.

The acting is superb in this show by the main cast. One of the best casts ever.
