Jaws was the #1 book worldwide in 1974-1975.
Jaws was #1 movie in 1975.
Jaws was a phenomenon even though critics panned the book.

Jaws the book is absolutely awful. The movie didn't follow the book very closely (thank god).
I thought the godfather was a fantastic book, better than the movie. The movie follows the book pretty closely iirc, but the book also contains many elements of godfather 2.

The Jaws book was weird. I read it when I was little and reading everything that moved and the book had some graphic sex descriptions. Particularly, the wife imagining if she got in a car wreck, if people would piece together that she was having an affair based on having no panties on and her leg being drenched in pussy juice.
Other books I read too young,
Shogun (anal beads)
Silence of the Lambs
