I had a somewhat similar situation and I dealt with it by contacting the potential cheater and asking them if they had really thought about the devastating consequences and how it would affect their children and family. I asked them to really think it over and to realize that their actions would greatly affect many people in their life.
They wrote me back and thanked me for not outting them and for handling it like I did and decided that cheating was not worth it. A few months later their spouse was diagnosed with cancer and they realized how much their spouse and the life they had together really meant to them.
Years later they are still together, stronger than ever and so thankful that they did not throw their life away by cheating.
