I know more than a few who make almost nothing. The few who are well paid earnn it for the most part. They know every bill, statute, and procedure backwards and forwards. They do a good job at getting Intel. It's easy to make fun of them. Over half the time the wining and dining they get accused of doing is actually extortion by legislators. Walk into Ticos and suddenly ten senators are sticking you with the tab.

The connections work just fine.... until you start losing too many times.

Edit: the law degree helps when you are drafting legislation.

Far too much. If a lobbyist made a $1 salary it would be $1 too more than any of them are worth.

Pity we can't fill a landfill somewhere will all of them, the world would be a better place.

It's way too broad a question.

Lobbyists are a vital part of our democracy and help out in many ways.

Now if you're talking campaign finance and all that shite, then yea that needs to be overhauled

Too much. Lobbyists are a part of what is killing this country.

People seem to think lobbyist work in opposition to what is in their best interest, in reality any person can make a list of the top 50 things that are important to them in their life and it is guaranteed there is a lobbying group representing each one of those interest.

Anti lobbyist stance is a litmus test for political ignorance. They are vital to the process.

Our city lost six million dollars in water money a few years ago. Our mayor fired the lobbyists and thought he could do it himself. Didn't know the procedures to getting the money and made a fool of himself. That is why you have lobbyists.

Why did your city lose the $ in the first place, if lobbyist talent was in place?

Indeed. Many communities have lobbyists, as do the NEA and most unions. It isn't just corporate vote buying.

Its heavily regulated, everything you do (relatively) is public record. Anything spent on business activity has to be reported. Lobbyists not only help their employer, they also serve as consultants to lawmakers.

People were griping about zoo paying $30k a year to one. She has gotten them over two million in the last three years. She paid foe herself.

With term limits, lobbyists okay a much more vital role.

Its really interesting tart team limits can actually really be a negative thing for constituents.
