Jimmy Detail seems to like Lindsey Scott quite a bit. Articles from October when he committed to Syracuse.

quote:

NOLA.com recruiting analyst James Smith believes those programs will regret that.

"Scott Jr. doesn't have the "prototypical" measurements, most notably his 5-foot-11 frame," Smith writes. "As a result, many programs decided to bypass the dual-threat quarterback, in hopes of finding someone who fits the mold of today's gunslingers, who often have all the measurables of an NFL quarterback.

"They will regret that decision."

With LSU, it was his height, or lack thereof. They believed that Scott was a magnificent high school quarterback, but his height would limit their ability to run an offense that caters to their personnel. Tulane simply had concerns that his lack of time under center in Zachary's shotgun, spread offense, would slow his development down, and limit his ability to succeed in their program.

I think they will both regret that decision. Yes, Scott may work primarily in shotgun. Yes, it may be hard for him to hit a receiver on a slant, with a three-step drop, with his linemen standing 6-5, or taller, but you can not question his ability to get it done, regardless of his deficiencies.

I would say both points are somewhat valid. I personally don't think they should be dis-qualifiers for an offer, for any team.

Can't fix height. Is it absolutely necessary? Debatable.

With strict NCAA limits on practices and such, you can only do so much "project development" so maybe not spending time under center puts you behind the curve; but, slowing development would depend on the person (some are more coachable than others).

LSU sophomore quarterback Brandon Harris experienced Scott's abilities first-hand, as his Parkway team beat Zachary 49-34, during Scott's sophomore season. Harris remains adamant that Scott was the best high school quarterback he had faced, and even drove to Acadiana in 2014, to see see Scott's Zachary Broncos take on Acadiana in the State semifinals as a sign of respect for his game. Harris has reached out to me on multiple occasions to express his admiration for Scott Jr. as a player, and shared in the frustration that his recruitment did not match his abilities.

Another great pull quote!

LSU throws maybe 10 slant routes a year so that will not affect Scott.

I've said before that he might end up a Dak Prescott-type player. Someone all the ESPN commentators will say "All these teams regret passing up on Scott!" for each game he's in.
