Because the fans and road weariness are amplified as the game wears on. I thought it was common knowledge OT generally benefits the home team.

I believe home teams win at a 52% clip in OT, which is probably lower than a home team's general win %.

Any data to back up the notion that home teams win at a greater clip in OT?
