Anywhere to camp near btr area that isnt an RV park/campground combo thing? Where we can actually go into the woods and set up shop.

How far are you willing to travel? There are plenty of places within 2-3 hours. How far are you willing to hike?

Percy Quinn in mccomb has a large primitive camping area. Most state parks do.

A little bit of a drive, but wild Azela trail system is best in area for primitive camping / hiking. Several past threads on it here.

Most of the LA state parks have primitive areas - some are more remote than others.

#1 choice - Chicot State Park (2 hours away) has several hike-to tent sites on the trail around the lake.

Fausse Point State Park has several sites that are reached via canoe.

Clear Springs in the Homochitto Nat. Forest has a primitive area.
